Ricky Gervais didn't have the same razor-sharp edge in his quips directed at the rich and famous at this year's Golden Globe awards as opposed to last year's -- but the British creator of The Office still managed to razz a few famous targets, including Jodie Foster, Kim Kardashian, Madonna and Justin Bieber.

Gervais, in his opening monologue, said show organizers told him he couldn't talk about Mel Gibson or his 2011 film, Jodie Foster's The Beaver.

“I haven’t seen it myself," Gervais said in his best double entendre tone. “I’ve spoken to a lot of guys here, they haven’t seen it either. But that doesn’t mean it’s not any good."

On Kardashian: “The Golden Globes are to the Oscars what Kim Kardashian is to Kate Middleton -- a bit louder, a bit trashier, a bit drunker and more easily bought.”

Jodie Foster has sold her Beverly Hills home, and was hit hard by the weak real estate market. The actor-director got $8.3 million for the property, which she'd listed in April for $9.975 million.

Foster paid more than $10 million when she bought the place in 2005.

The estate has a five-bedroom main house built in 1949 in a Cape Cod style. There's a two-bedroom guest house, a tennis court and a swimming pool.

But if you were hoping for a panic room, there wasn't one.

Jodie Foster’s father has been sentenced to five years in jail following his conviction for stealing more than $100,000 from elderly and low-income people.

Lucius Foster, 89, was sentenced in a Los Angeles courtroom on Friday after being found guilty of 21 counts of grand theft for taking $5,000 down-payments from 25 investors on low-cost homes. 

The homes, that were advertised as selling for $85,999 each, were never built according to the prosecution.

Jodie Foster's elderly father could be sentenced to more than 25 years in prison Thursday – one day after a jury in Van Nuys, California convicted him of deceiving property investors out of nearly $200,000.

Lucius Foster, 89, was found guilty Wednesday on 21 counts of grand theft, after taking $5,000 down-payments from 25 investors on low-cost homes that were never built; many of the victims were elderly and low-income.

Foster – who’s estranged from his two-time Oscar winning daughter - was also convicted of nine counts of operating without a contractor's license.

Lucius Foster is facing up to 20 years in prison for allegedly ripping off over two dozen investors, taking more than $130,000 in an apparent housing scam in Los Angeles, The Daily Beast is reporting.

Jodie Foster's estranged dad was in a Los Angeles courtroom on Thursday, charged with 25 counts of grand theft and 10 counts of contracting without a license.

Mincing no words in his opening statement, Deputy City Attorney Dan Cocek said, “Mr. Foster is a liar and a cheat. He has had a scam going for years to steal money from people. A lot of people fell for it. He sounded so convincing.”

According to Cocek, the 89-year-old building contractor bilked each of his clients -- who he found on CraigsList --  out of a $5,000 down payment after he claimed he would build them low-cost modular homes for $85,000. He planned to make the three-bedroom, 2,000-square-foot homes out of metal cargo containers from China.

Foster is representing himself in court.

Jennifer Aniston and Justin Theroux made their most public appearance as a couple yet when they lit up the red carpet at the 25th American Cinematheque Awards Honoring Robert Downey Jr. Friday night.
