DVD Review: Chloe

Posted on Jul 13, 2010 @ 06:48PM - Add a comment

Chloe's seduction begins from the get-go. Starting in a small bedroom, Amanda Seyfried slips into lacy pieces of lingerie, with her hair flowing down her back and a voice-over about how she's a master of the flesh. This is no kid stuff: welcome to a Euro-style love triangle that unfolds painstakingly slowly, but reveals a new layer of intrigue with each surprising turn.

DVD Review: The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo

Our little vixen, however, isn't glamming up for the fun of it. As the resident lady of the night, Seyfried plays Chloe with a creepy mix of innocence, manipulation and pure sex appeal. The sassy beauty stirs up trouble when a doctor (Julianne Moore) suspects her husband (Liam Neeson) of cheating, and hires Chloe to get to the bottom of things (so to speak). Pretty soon, lust heats up and the lies start flying -- but not from who you think! Dr. S has some secrets of her own, while Chloe's angelic face hides another agenda that throws a wrench in the works.

What began as an game of curiosity is suddenly far from light-hearted, and the doc is in way over her head. Dr. S's issues feel all the more awful because Moore is completely believable as a woman who's filled with anguish about her icy marriage, her distant teenage son, and getting older while hot young things flit by. (Her husband is a college professor. Need we say more?)

The DVD includes commentary from Seyfried, screenwriter Erin Cressida Wilson and director Atom Egoyan, as well as a meaty making-of featurette, which offers a helpful break-down of the film's major themes. The featurette also offers a glimpse at what the film's stars and producers have to say about it, which ranges from calling it "dangerous" to "erotic." Chloe isn't a relaxing pick for a sultry summer night. Still, with a solid cast, steamy scenes and secrets galore, it's also a guilty pleasure, with serious subjects dressed up in black, lace and lies.

Karate Kid Kicks The A-Team's Box Office Butt

DNP Random Things

With Jaden Smith in the title role, The Karate Kid is scoring the box office upset of the year, RadarOnline.com can report.

PHOTOS: Celebs Come Out For Karate Kid Premiere

The action flick produced by Jaden's parents, Will and Jada Pinkett Smith, took in an estimated $56 million at the box office this weekend.  That's easily $20 million more than predicted.

Jaden, 11, easily toppled The A-Team. Even with A-list stars Liam Neeson, Bradley Cooper and Jessica Biel reviving the 1980s TV series, The A-Team could only pull in $27 million.

DNP Random Things

Hold on to your seats! It's been over 20 years since we've seen The A-Team in action and this summer's action-packed, adventure flick doesn't disappoint. Director and writer Joe Carnahan infuses the perfect amount of knock-em-sock-em-adventure scenes with hilarious anecdotes.

The Back Up Plan

Bradley Cooper brings sizzle to the screen with his baby blues and quirky comedic timing, while Liam Neeson pulls off being the master planner of inventive missions incredibly well. Jessica Biel adds a needed kick of estrogen to the testosterone filled movie, playing the role of Capt. Charissa Sosa a former flame of Cooper’s.

The A-Team follows a team of former Special Forces soldiers who were set up for a crime they didn’t commit. Neeson leads the gang as Hannibal Smith as they try to clear their names and catch the ones who set them up. Cooper plays the lovable Templeton ‘Face’ Peck, Quinton “Rampage” Jackson takes over Mr. T’s role as B.A. Baracus while Sharlto Copley rounds out this motley crew as the crazy H.M. ‘Howlin’ Mad’ Murdock.

Kick-Ass

The soldiers perform daring undercover missions throughout the movie, with special effects and innovative moves you’ve never seen before. Patrick Wilson plays a mysterious CIA operative named Lynch who turns out to be a key element in the A-Team’s mission to clearing their name.

New DVD Releases

There are some unexpected twists and turns along the way, but one thing is for sure; this A-Team is way more explosive than what you ever saw in the 80’s. If you're looking for a fun, witty, action-packed movie this summer then head to the theater and as The A-Team would say -- "There is no plan B!"
