< BACK TO Radar Reviews Goldfrapp at Radio City Music Hall
(Photo: Sam Frank) No longer is she singing horny hymns to cunnilingus and vibrators in front of huge stomping beats and bass. This music was almost synth-free, with two key-tars, a timpani, violin, and a harpist, perfect to flesh out the Laurel Canyon cum Abbey Road vibe of new record Seventh Tree. This earth mama Alison doesn't remotely resemble the sexed out chanteuse of 2005's Supernature, either. Her tightly tailored stewardess-on-Hitler's-private-jet dresses have given way to a Haight Street hippie's neon rainbow-fringed poncho and bare feet. The new stuff was met with enthusiastic applause, but it took foot-stomping favorites like "Train" and "Strict Machine" to get the crowd off their asses and into the aisles. The pacing was a bit off, going from gentle ballads to older funky fare then back again, but overall it was a well put together show. And stop complaining that Seventh Tree isn't as good as Supernature or Black Cherry. A girl can change her damned tune now and again—and so should you! goldfrapp is totally too happy right now. it's almost kinda creepy. Posted by: natalie on October 27, 2008 4:18 PM Advertisement |
