< BACK TO Radar Reviews Plug Me In - AC/DC
The two-disc Plug Me In (out now) ultimately serves as a frontman steel-cage match between the band's two singers: disc one features the certifiable Bon Scott, disc two the venerable Brian Johnson (the latter having assumed the reins after the former expired from "death by misadventure"). This DVD, like most odds-makers, gives the battle to Scott, who with his drunken, bare-chested, shortest-short jorts persona led the gang to its first taste of fame and fortune through a series of raw, visceral records and performances. It's a contest not even Johnson, in his shorn black tank, tapered Guess jeans, and squealing delivery, can compete with. There are highlights throughout, but none moreso than in an especially blinding cover of "Baby Please Don't Go" on disc one, which showcases how the band scorched through early tours and returned home triumphant yet still hungry (Angus strips down to his cheetah-print skivvies in homage to the hunt.) It's a feel good effort—one that should replace your girlfriend's electro-hop iTunes mix at your next BBQ (the sound quality's strong enough)—but it's also one that resoundingly affirms faith through the idea that six drunken, potentially criminal louts, with nary more than one forever-modifiable riff, can pull together and create something sketchy adolescents in every country can lose their virginity to.—Chris Cechin
