the challenge for the LA Times is for its editorial department culture to embrace that it writes a newspaper for the residents in its area of circulation, not for the whole world. it has always wanted to be something more, but there is no business model to support the cost structure to focus on more than meeting the needs of its readers, who are local.
Steve Schmidt is a professional, calm, organized, non ego challeged, get it done guy. Should be interesting.
