Great. One more way to screw up these little girls. Let's add gender confusion to the mess. We all know that these contests with young, impressionable children place an unhealthy emphasis on physical beauty and the material things in life. These beauty contests are not for the children's self esteem and confidence. Come on! These are for the parents egos and personality defecits. Self esteem & confidence in children come from accomplishing real tasks, not from praise and especially not praise for their beauty. If that child internalizes that her looks are the most important thing about her, that is a foundation made on sand. Not every cute child grows into a pretty teen or adult. Haven't you ever seen a child with a cute little nose grow up with an entirely different nose (large,a hump, etc.) or God forbid they have a disfiguring accident or disease. How are they going to cope with that? Save the beauty contests until 16 yrs & up when they have developed a sense of self and actually win prizes that are worthwhile. What ever happened to the concept that a woman should be valued as something besides a sex object?
