Thank you Choire. That show is the worst. I thought they were going to keep it in the WNYC-AM 820 ghetto but one morning about a month ago, I woke up to something like this on the FM station:

"This week the federal government will decide whether to put the polar bear on the endangered list. What's on your endangered list - enough sleep? time with your family?"

I've phased out WNYC in the morning as a result.

Humphrey lost in 1968, and McCarthy didn't rally the antiwar forces, because Humphrey ran in support of the war. Blame McCarthy if you like but if he had tried to rally the antiwar movement for HHH they would have abandoned him.

Nothing like that will happen this year. There are no policy divisions. All the Democrats who voted in the primaries will vote for Obama - unless, of course, they don't think he would do a very good job.

(Actually, it's McCain's election that's more likely to be the death knell of conservatism. The conservatives will thrive under Obama. But if you really believe Packer's rosy scenario, search kausfiles for "cocooning.")

I have to stick up for Eliot on this. There's no basis to say that he is a "streetwalker aficionado"; all evidence suggests he sticks exclusively to high-end call girls.

The money for this can be raised in about 15 minutes. When you think about the hundreds of millions Hillary and Obama have spent to bludgeon each other into a standstill, along with the guaranteed disaster if this isn't resolved before the convention, the money for these revotes seems trivial. They can take soft money donations in unlimited amounts so it's not the same money pool the candidates are confined to.

The correction needs a correction. Sorensen is widely know to have written the whole book (Profiles In Courage). Saying it was written by Kennedy with Sorensen's "guidance" is a polite fiction.
