Interesting angle on Mitt's religion, but frankly I think it's a stretch to say Mitt is strictly prohibited from gambling. The article simply said "strongly urged". As in "we strongly urge you not to do obviously stupid things that will ruin your life". I doubt you get kick out of the church for a "strongly urged".
Mitt's church's position on gambling seems pretty generic as well. I can't image a church disagreeing with it. If they did it would sound pretty funny:
"According to OUR doctrine: "OUR Church has been and now is unalterably supportive of gambling in any form whatever. It is supportive to any game of chance, occupation, or so-called business, which takes money from the person who may be possessed of it without giving value received in return. It is supportive to all practices the tendency of which is to encourage the spirit of reckless speculation, and particularly to that which tends to degrade or weaken the high moral standard which members of the Church, and our community at large, have always maintained.... We therefore advise and urge all members of the Church to participate in any activity which is similar to the view herein set forth."
Of course some good money is made at bingo night and that might be a little too much to give up.
Sorry couldn't resist.
Tim.
