Looks like Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick may have more than constituents and prison staff to answer to should he be found guilty of 1) perjuring himself to a grand jury in a whistle-blowing suit and related to an alleged affair with his onetime Chief of Staff Christine Beatty, and 2) maybe assaulting a deputy sheriff. Politico is reporting on the effect his problems are having on his mother, Carloyn Cheeks Kilpatrick, a sitting congresswoman currently up for re-election in Michigan, and who is presently being bombarded by opponents over her son's many transgressions. Actually, Kwame might prefer the safety of prison should his mom lose her seat: she's frightening, and rivals are making the easy point.
