The Broadway musical Bye Bye Birdie -- which famously starred Ann-Magaret and a sweater in the 1963 film version -- is being remade.
Loosely based on the real-life events about Elvis Presley being drafted into the army at the height of his career, the musical tells what happens when fictional rocker Conrad Birdie comes to a small town to give his farewell performance before reporting for duty.
The film will be directed by Adam Shankman, who has a hit with the current Adam Sandler flick Bedtime Stories.
A 1995 TV version starred Chynna Phillips in the teen queen role.
