MODERN ART 101 DIY Damian Hirst
Tomorrow night, British artist Damien Hirst will unveil an art installation in the lobby of Manhattan eatery Lever House that will showcase, among other delicacies, 30 dead sheep, a dead shark, two sides of beef, 300 sausages, and a pair of doves. (Who's hungry?!) Of course, Hirst has made a career out of turning carcasses into high art: In 1992, he sold The Physical Impossibility of Death in the Mind of Someone Living, a dead 14-foot tiger submerged in tank filled with formaldehyde, to art collector Charles Saatchi for around $95,000. (A good investment: Saatchi hawked it to hedge fund billionaire Steve Cohen for $8 million.)
