Spider-Man series: Each one, we're assured by publicists and movie critics, is actually thematically complex, charting heretofore unexplored psychological depths—not like all the other ones! But then it's always exactly like the other ones—well over two hours of painful exposition, a noisy and chaotic denouement, and a protagonist whose canned inner turmoil is supposed to be interesting. Shut up and hurl a car at a helicopter already.
