THE YEAR IN REVIEW
Barely Legal: Joe Francis had a brush with the law![]() CAN I SEE YOUR ID? Francis swears they were 18 If a previous rape allegation wasn't enough to kill playboy party-sleaze Joe Francis's buzz, 2006 ushered in more legal problems for the 33-year-old daddy of the Girls Gone Wild adult video empire. Next year, the professional chicken hawk might want to consider moving to Peru or Iceland where the age of sexual consent is 14. In September, Francis and his company Mantra Films were charged with failing to maintain age and identity documents for the young girls in their soft porn reality videos, as well as not labeling the DVDs and videos as required by law. Initially, they were ordered to pay $2.1 million in fines. That's probably what it cost to fuel Francis's private GGW jet for 2006 alone. The company makes an estimated $40 million a year, but rarely pays the cuties that end up being the videos' stars. It's essentially, "My friends and I were in a Girls Gone Wild video and all I got was this lousy STD." So, earlier this month a Panama City, Florida, judge added to Francis's punishment. Now, he and Mantra Films will be required to serve 32 hours of community service a month for 30 months. Could be a fit; Francis has been known to enjoy picking up trash.
