Twilight star Nikki Reed’s father has told RadarOnline.com that he is ‘happy’ that his daughter is engaged to American Idol singer Paul McDonald.

Although the couple have only been dating for three months they went public with the announcement when Reed flashed a diamond ring on the red carpet at Sunday’s MTV Movie Awards.

He told RadarOnline.com: “I am happy for them both it’s good news.

“I guess the press are all over the story, so, I don’t want to say too much at this time.”

It’s understood that Reed, 23, and McDonald, 26, are already house hunting in the Los Angeles area as they prepare for their new life together.

Despite the fact that the stunning actress only met the Nashvile born singer in March she told PEOPLE: “I love him and I don't care.
