Michelle Obama Takes Family (Minus Barack) To Africa

Michelle Obama is headed to Africa.
The first lady is embarking on a week-long tour of the continent, with stops in South Africa and Botswana, to meet with young leaders and discuss issues of global importance.

While the president will not be on hand, the Chicago native is taking her daughters Malia and Sasha, her mother Marian Robinson, and her niece and nephew Leslie and Avery Robinson, along for the ride.
In a video posted to the White House website, the first lady called Africa "a fundamental part of our interconnected world.

She said "when it comes meeting the challenges of our time ... the world is looking to African nations as vital partners."
On the trip, Michelle is also slated to honor iconic leader Nelson Mandela, South Africa's first elected black president.

It's the first solo trip to Africa for Michelle as first lady, and second overall: She visited Mexico in April 2010.

All of their airfare is courtesy of U.S. taxpayers. It's been reported any additional expenses will be paid for privately BUT if they are at US sponsored lunches,dinners, etc. with her, we will be footing the bill them. Typical bs!

They are charged what everyone else would pay flying privately. Flying security team is on the taxpayers as it has been for all Presidents.

Wrong, they already released the info. Just like Barack, she can invite as many guests on the plane as she wants at no charge to them. As you so kindly pointed out to another poster.....check your facts before you post.

When it is a private vacation they are responsible for the same charges everyone else pays on a regular flight (ticket). When it is business they are not responsible.

Oy....the White House released the info (due to the Spain debacle) stating her guests will not pay for airfare. Michelle is going there on official business (insert eyeroll) and she has guests tagging along on our dime.

The President's income is very high and he can afford to pay for all his personal vacations for his family and he does. This is not on the taxpayers. Please stop spreading incorrect facts. At least check before you speak.

When it is a personal vacation the First Family pays for all expenses except for security b/c they are a high value target. Transport is charged as what a commercial flight would be. Check FactCheck.org.

It is time for the media to question these family and friends trips at our expense! People
are losing homes, can't find jobs and the Obamas are using our tax dollars like their own
bank account!

This is just ANOTHER free vacation for the Obama family paid for by the taxpayers, and this time she's taking her mom and niece and nephew. Enough!
