Actress Shannen Doherty has suffered a heartbreaking loss - her beloved father has died, RadarOnline.com has learned.

John Thomas Doherty, 66, passed away last Friday.

The former 90210 star issued a statement through her publicist calling her dad the "greatest man in the world."

She added, "I love him with every inch of my being and cannot imagine life without him."

Doherty, 39, said she was inspired to take on the gruelling challenge of competing on ABC's Dancing with the Stars after her father suffered a stroke on Christmas Day.

Her dad managed to make it to one of her DWTS performances during her short stint on the show this past March.

I remember Shannen talking about her dad being sick back when she was doing 90210. He'd been chronically ill for years. Hopefully he's at peace now.

I remember her kissing her dad in the audience on DWTS...may he rest in peace. I'm sure Shannen knows how proud he was of her annd how much she was loved.
