Is Tom Cruise a rodeo fan, or was he researching a role?

We're not sure, but either way, the super-talented A-lister was spotted last weekend with his 15-year-old son Connor and his eldest daughter Isabella at a rodeo event at Citizen's Business Bank Arena in Ontario, California, and our friends at VideoBGone.com have exclusively provided us with the footage.

At one point, actor Lorenzo Lamas makes his way over to Cruise and the men shake hands, smile and exchange a few words.

In the video, we see Cruise chatting it up with a few of the cowboys on hand, including World Champion rodeo cowboy Ty Murray, the husband of singer Jewel.

Cruise, 48, is rumored to be starring in a project called Paper Wings, a rodeo-themed romance in which the frenetic leading man would play opposite Reese Witherspoon. The story casts Cruise as a rodeo champ and Witherspoon as a country singer.

With the authenticity the rangy Cruise has brought to standout performances as a race car driver (1990's Days Of Thunder), a sports agent (1996's Jerry Maguire) and a cold-blooded hit man (2004's Collateral), it wouldn't surprise us if Tom's fighting to stay atop the bull in the near future.

Oh tom, you are too old to play the role of a rodeo rider and we are all going to make fun if you when you get in the cowboy gear. Don't do it. He needs to find a grittier role
