Was it business or pleasure? Jon Gosselin headed west this week, hitting the streets of Venice, California, on Tuesday, meeting up with a reality show producer.

Clad in a bright orange polo shirt and khaki shorts, Jon and Canaan Rubin- a former ET staffer and now an independent reality show producer- did some shopping at a local shoe store before jumping into a two-seater sports car. Making the most of the beach weather, the two men drove away with the top down.

With Kate having two shows on TLC, maybe Jon is looking for a loophole to get back into the television ring. A few weeks ago, Rubin was touring Levi Johnston around, pitching his Alaska–based adventure show.

Jon has been doing a lot of traveling recently. On Monday, he was in Washington D.C., lunching with friends at the W Hotel and meeting up with his pal Erwin Gomez who owns a local spa and salon.

Over the weekend, he took his current girlfriend Ellen Ross to New York City.

“Didn't have custody this weekend,” Jon wrote on his Twitter. “Enjoyed spending time with Ellen in NYC.(her 1st time) missed kids terribly, but spoke with them every hour.”

When he was home he was not happy being a dad and being home, he said he lost his twenties and made sound like he never wanted children! You're just plain lazy and a fool! NEVER WANTED HIS KIDS, THEY TOOK HIS YOUTH AWAY, THAT’S WHAT HE SAID.

Remember Jon telling the Rabbi that the kids "didn't validate" him!!! He said he needed more than just being their father

If Jon were still drawing a paycheck from TLC, as the Khaters are always saying, that would mean he wasn't free to pursue another show w/o their ok. If he's shopping a reality show, it would prove he's no longer getting a dime from them.

I don't know gamom, since they are his children he may get some of the money for allowing them to be on the show. I just wonder if that is so but I am sure the contract can no longer stop him from being on tv to a point.

He's making money from somewhere. He's earning enough for some child support and enough to live on too. TLC could still have a contract and let him work on a show as long as it's not direct competition. There's a lot we don't know.
