Matt Lauer’s mother-in-law Johanna Struijk confirmed the Today Show host’s split from his wife Annette, but Matt’s mother Marilyn Gentry told RadarOnline.com that she knows nothing about a breakup.

Lauer is currently overseas at the Cannes Film Festival and has now denied the split report, making the situation even murkier. And while reports say Matt’s wife Annette has removed her wedding ring, RadarOnline.com reports that Matt is still wearing his.

“I was just there Lauer home for a three day weekend for Mother’s Day with Matt and Annette and the three kids,” Matt’s mom Marilyn told RadarOnline.com Thursday afternoont. “They get along great and Annette and I get along great. She’s a great gal.”

According to the National Enquirer, Matt moved out of the home he shared with Annette two months ago but is still very involved in his children’s lives. “It’s OK, she is happy,” Johanna said of the breakup.

After Johanna made her statement, Lauer and his wife said they are still together, creating a puzzling picture of a marriage that has beset with reports of trouble for year. In 2006 while pregnant with their third child, Annette filed for divorce after learning of an alleged affair Matt had in 1998 with a married woman, leaving her unable to trust her husband. She withdrew the papers just a month after filing.
