Oprah Winfrey won’t give her phone number to her mother.
That’s what author Kitty Kelley contends as she promotes her new unauthorized biography about Oprah.

And RadarOnline.com confirmed with a source who knows Oprah’s mom that Vernita has to call Oprah’s personal assistant and leave a message.
“The assistant tells Oprah what her mother wants and then the assistant calls Vernita back and tells her what Oprah said,” the source told RadarOnline.com, but added that Oprah does talk to her mother directly at times.

The source also told RadarOnline.com that Oprah has people check on Vernita in her condo daily, including people with medical training.
Kelley said in a recent interview with the New York Times that Oprah furnishes her mother with a car and driver.

“She buys $500 hats, and she has a very good life financially, but she can’t reach Oprah,” Kelley said of Vernita. “Oprah will not give her mother her telephone number.”

If my mother had treated me the way that Oprah's mother treated her as a child, I wouldn't want to talk with her either. Just make sure she has a home, medical care and enough to eat and that would be all the responsibility I would feel.

I wonder how often her mom called O when she was a poor girl living with her dad, trying to get by. Maybe that means that now Mom shouldn't have the right to directly call rich, successful O. Let O have control of that. Good for O.

I LOVE Oprah!!! I don't blame her one bit for not wanting to give her mother her phone number. Her mother was never really a mother to her. All the mother is now is a big leech.

I never HAVE cared for Big 'O' she's always looking for the camera, who, but O, would do a great service & open a school in Africa, then take a whole film crew to 'record' the events? Doesnt anyone do good just for the sake of doing it?

This doesnt surprise me and while Im not a big fan of hers I do know she has said her family made her feel like a bank at times. My partner and I dont have as much money but can relate with the feeling. I dont blame her at all.

As usual some "author" writes a book as if they have intimate knowledge and everyone swallows it up as gospel....believe NONE of what you read and only some of what you see.....
