Jay Leno’s return to the Tonight Show brought in almost twice the viewers than longtime foe David Letterman, RadarOnline.com has confirmed.

Tonight Show With Jay Leno Returns Monday

Overnight ratings for NBC show almost 6 million people watched Leno return to his old home. CBS’ The Late Show With David Letterman brought in 3.3 million viewers. This is a big blow to Letterman who soared to the top of the late night ratings during Conan O’Brien’s term. And, this is The Tonight Show’s best overnight performance since Conan took over the Tonight Show on June 1, 2009.

TV experts say the real test will be later this week when the curiosity factor over Jay’s return ends.

Letterman all the way - Leno has no edge.

Jaty Leno is decent that why we old folks like him. He's also very, very funny. Letterman should kiss Co Co's feet for being so lousy that he finally got a number 1 slot.

I'm happy with that. That's the real reason David took Conan's side... he was beating Conan in the ratings. LoL Jay always beats Dave. it's just a fact.

Good for JAY!!! NBC forced him to work an earlier show and gave Conan his time slot. CONAN FAILED in that time slot. Conan was no friend of NBC. Conan helped dirty old man Dave Letterman get ratings, not NBC.

of course jay's ratings would be big the first night / week back. let the dust settle and then see ratings. i'm sure jay will still beat dave, but by how much is the question.
