After weeks of waiting and anticipation, Ellen DeGeneres made her debut on American Idol Tuesday night for day one of Hollywood Week.
The pixie-haired comedienne took her seat at the judge’s table at the Kodak Theater and seemed to gel easily with veterans Randy Jackson, Kara DioGuardi and Simon Cowell.

True to form, Ellen brought smiles and laughs to the hour-long episode. But viewers also saw a different side of the comedienne. Wearing a pair of thick black glasses, Ellen showed she definitely has a serious side as she got down to business, shooting down several Idol hopefuls.
“You frighten me, you’re like a lion stalking me from behind a cage,” she told Skiiboski. “Don’t frighten your audience. Sexy and scary, it’s a fine line.”

Others also found themselves on the chopping block. “That was crazy in a bad way. I’m already tired and that almost put me to sleep, Ellen told an unlucky few, telling another contestant, “put some shoes on! This is Hollywood. It’s a dirty town.”
The standout performance of the night was Andrew Garcia, who did a haunting acoustic rendition of Paula Abdul’s Straight Up on his guitar.

“Paula would be doing this,” Ellen told Garcia as she clapped her hands wildly over her head .
No matter how serious DeGeneres got, she still made sure to put a little ‘funny’ in Tuesday night’s auditions.

As four contestants waited patiently to hear if they made it to the next round, Ellen told each of them to step forward as if they had made it, then told them to step back, to the side and finally back again before breaking into a smile and telling them, “You’ve all made it through!”

I was one of the ones that was a sceptic, but to tell you the truth wasn't as bad as I thought. She was pleasant, funny, and got along with everyone very well. Good Job Ellen!

I love Ellen but she just did not do it fo me on A.I. maybe i kept remenbering how she has tryed on her show to sing and just can not do it, but she is on this show judgeing singes when she has no idea about notes-kind of dumb in my oppinion

I really enjoyed the change of pace with Ellen judging. Most of us can't sing a decent note but we get to judge also. Every year my phone gets a workout while I am judging. :)

I am sorry, I don't mean to correct spelling or be the spelling police here but WOW! for not fo, remembering not remenbering, tried not tryed, judging not judgeing, songs not singes, opinion not oppinion....YIKES!

Kansas Kay, you need to go back to school and take a vocabulary refresher course. There is a reason why a red line shows up under a word before you hit submit! It is spell check for those who need it, USE IT!
