The deal is almost done. NBC will shell out approximately $40 million to end its relationship with Conan O'Brien, the New York Times is reporting.

Most but not all of the cash is going to Conan. A portion will go to pay off contracts of some key staffers.

Conan O'Brien Tells NBC To Take A Hike

The deal will also allow Conan to return to TV on a competing network no later than September.

Conan Would Be Happier Somewhere Else

NBC is expected to make an official announcement on the deal immediately after the ink is dry.

Conan's last broadcast is expected to be Friday. Jay Leno will move back into his old late night slot after NBC's Olympic coverage ends in early March.

Story developing.....

To me its quite obvious that Leno's "friendliness" is fake and just for the sake of television.

Haa. You Conan haters are just jealous because you have no soul, just like Leno. Even if you don't find his humor to your liking, at least Conan is a genuine, good-hearted person and not a pompous ass.

Leno is much funnier than Conan but I'd rather see David Letterman.

Leno is a jerk. I hope he fails.

He doesn't deserve anything! All he accomplished was put The Tonight Show in second place. Why do you think David Letterman hates to see Jay return. Back to #2 Dave. Guess you'll have to play w/the girl staffers to get a laugh.

Conan was an embarrassment to NBC at 12:35AM I dont know what they thought he'd do at 11:35PM
The only one sorry to see him go are Lettermen and Kimmel because that's the only time they were ahead. I think It'll be great to see Jay again.

Boycott him for what. That's the only time The Tonight Show was #1 except when Johnny Carson was there. They did Jay dirty & NBC lived to regret it. David Letterman is the only one sorry to see him back. Hegoes back to #2 place. LOL

You are so right, Letterman knew he could only be #1 against Conan! Welcome back Leno.
