In the season twelve finale of The Bachelor, Matt Grant got down on one knee and proposed to Shayne Lamas with a 2.85-carat platinum and diamond eternity ring.. "I have something for you," he said. "Monkey... Will you marry me?"

"Yes" she answered. "Matt, I love you!"

But that love was pretty short lived. The pair split just months later saying they were both "heading in different directions".

In an exclusive interview with RadarOnline.com Matt dishes on his break-up as well as why he chose Shayne in the first place, how the show's producers promoted the General Hospital actress above the other girls, the pressure he felt to propose, and how crazy it is to do so after knowing someone for only six weeks!

Matt says that a lot of people told him after the show that they had "lost interest in you when you picked Shayne". And says that he understands where they're coming from and that he feels he "went from a respectable guy to a complete tool!"

Matt also says that he thinks the reason he picked Shayne was because of her experience on camera and that she made his job easier. He admits that in reality they had "nothing in common" and that she was "no way appropriate for me". He says that the show producers definitely promoted Shayne above the other girls and he understands why as she was good in front of the camera.

Matt says that in retrospect he got "totally swept up" in the show and that's why he proposed, he also confessed that he "was drunk a lot of the time!" And he says the proposal is one of his biggest regrets on doing the show.

He says that things started falling apart as soon as they finished filming and left Barbados, and that looking back he's kind of embarrassed by the whole thing.

Matt says that he had thought he and Shayne could have some fun and some success together but soon realized that wasn't the case, and when she modeled for Girls Gone Wild magazine it dawned on him it wasn't going to work out for the two of them. He says it was a mutual decision to part ways.

The hunky Brit, who is still single and loving it ladies, also shares with RadarOnline.com how the Bachelor has affected his relationships since, joking that he now has to take a rose with him whenever he goes on a date!
