Rick Warren - often referred to as 'America's Pastor' -is asking his flock to cough up $900,000 in just two days to keep his church in the black.

Warren, the mega-pastor and bestselling author who gave the invocation at the historic inauguration of President Barack Obama, has sent this letter to his followers:

"Dear Saddleback Family,"  begins Warren. "THIS IS AN URGENT LETTER unlike any I've written in 30 years. Please read all of it and get back to me in the next 48 hours.

EXCLUSIVE: Dr. Conrad Murray Asks Church Congregation To Pray For Him

"I have thrilling news to share with you below but first some seriously bad news: With 10% of our church family out of work due to the recession, our expenses in caring for our community in 2009 rose dramatically while our income stagnated. Still, with wise management, we've stayed close to our budget all year. Then... this last weekend the bottom dropped out.

"On the last weekend of 2009, our total offerings were less than half of what we normally receive - leaving us $900,000 in the red for the year, unless you help make up the difference today and tomorrow."

EXCLUSIVE: Mel Gibson's "Crazed Rant" At Church

In his letter, Warren praises the church's accomplishments for the year, and then adds:

It's obvious that your giving through your church family is providing more "bang for the buck" than anything else you could support. It is no wonder that our ministry was named the top religious newsmaker of 2009 as reported by Associated Press.

So I'm dying to know: did Warren meet his $900,000 goal today?

I was a member of his church. I dont disagree with people . But, he's not rich-and im pretty sure he had to pick the lesser of two evils with this one. Everyone knows people don't spend at X-Mas.

Goodie, goodie, now the gays have a new arena to attack. If you had any idea what ALL churches go thru every 4 mos. with the IRS...you'd jump off this supposition. Do you know Rick Warren's ideology?

What I don't understand is that he says this last weekend the donations dropped by half, so what do they do live from week to week, like most of us live pay check to pay check. They should have had enough money to last them to the end of the year.

Congregations tithe...and yes, they too live from paycheck to paycheck. Now if you had a pay cut from one month to the next...? How do you make ends meet? I guess you should have had enough money to last...hunh?

He never did say the thrilling news did he. These ministers live so much better then then the average family, I feel that they should reduce their perks and salary before they start asking people to donate. Their way of living never changes.

Yeah, you'll notice that no one in the mainstream media mentioned Obama's OTHER pastor's (remember Rev. Wright?) million+++ home that the congregation paid for.
