WEEKEND BOX OFFICE: New Moon Has Monster Ticket Sales

The Twilight Saga: New Moon tore up the box office this weekend bringing in an even-better-than expected $140.7 million. Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner took the movie to the third biggest opening in Hollywood history. 

Sandra Bullock
's tearjerker football flick, The Blind Side, also had a strong first weekend. It brought it an estimated $34.5 million for second place.  The third spot went to the disaster epic 2012, with $26.5 million. The animated Planet 51 had the fourth spot with$12.6 million. Fifth place went to A Christmas Carol which added $12.2 million to its total. Precious continued to do staggering per-theater numbers.  It brought it $11 million for sixth place.

The rest of the top 10: The Men Who Stare At Goats - $11.8 million; Couples Retreat - $2 million; The Fourth Kind - $1.7 million; Law Abiding Citizen - $1.6 million.

Precious was TERRIBLE. A gut wrenching painful movie from the start to the finish. Highly NOT recommended.
