Mariah Carey is known for her sexy videos and on stage presence, but even this sexy songstress can trip up from time to time.

Appearing on The Jay Leno Show Monday night, the Obsession diva almost took a spill on her way out to the stage.  Promoting her new album Memoirs Of A Imperfect Angel, Mariah made her way onto the stage very carefully as she held on to the wall before stepping down the first step.

In her very low-cut, eye-popping dress and high heeled shoes, Mariah waved and sent kisses to the adoring crowd when she missed the next step and almost took a fall, but she recovered nicely, albeit embarrassed.

Once safely on the couch, she joked about her misstep.  "You know when I tripped... I choreographed that earlier.  It was a plan to make Jay nervous that maybe he would get sued."

When Leno complimented her four-inch heels, Mariah put blame on her black strapped open-toe shoe.  "This is the cause of the whole thing". She pointed to a loose strap on her left shoe.

One thing Mariah has learned from Nick Cannon, her comedian husband, is how to handle an embarrassing situation with a laugh.
