Larry David addressed the recent controversy involving a scene from a recent episode of his HBO series, Curb Your Enthusiasm, on the new George Lopez TBS talk show, Lopez Live Thursday, after religious groups were rankled when the Seinfeld creator inadvertently urinated on a painting of Jesus Christ.

David explained to the show's host, fellow comedian George Lopez, the premise of the episode's plot, in which he takes medicine that dramatically increased the flow of his urine, causing the accidental sacrilege.

"It upset them, [Christian] people of faith," David explained of the subsequent backlash. "And Muslims too."

"They never agree, but they've agreed that they hate you," Lopez added.

"Many Jews hate me too!" David, sounding as misanthropic as his TV alter ego, said.

HBO said of the furor: "Anyone who follows Curb Your Enthusiasm knows that the show is full of parody and satire. Larry David makes fun of everyone, most especially himself. The humor is always playful and certainly never malicious."

Freedom FROM religion - you have. You don't have to pee on someone else's believes to prove you're free from it. IDIOTS.

Remember kids, Jesus is an imaginary friend for adults who never grew up.

Humor is often crass and disrespectful. Somehow this just crosses all lines of decency. It is not just offensive, it is vulgar and it is just way-over-the-top, and for me, way-past funny into another emotion: shame.

Jesus is so much bigger than HBO and Larry David. Jesus can take anything we humans dish out. When you meet him that is where you might run into problems. That Heaven and Hell thing.

I laugh at these weaklings who make fun of Christianity while carefully ignoring Islam. Larry David, his writers, and his staff are cowards who would not be able to stand up to the response that would be raised if Larry urinated on Muhammed.

It's still acceptable, sadly, to ridicule Jesus and Christianity. While Hollywood was bursting at the seams to defend Roman Polanski, a child rapist, Jesus is still a target of meanness and disrespect. Bummer.

It would have been funnier if he urinated on a Torah.

I think all religious groups think we should toptoe around them and their believes, however I can't even begin to imaging what would happen if that had been a picture of Allah,Larry and his cast would have to go in to hiding.

I would LOVE to see these "Christian groups" giving such a vocal outcry and pouring of help regarding poverty, disease, neglect, especially involving children.. THAT would be on Christ's daily agenda, not their ridiculous crap.

You don't pay any attention to Christian groups if you can make that ridiculous statement
