While her soon to be ex husband Jon soaked up the sun in Hawaii, Kate Gosselin got a head start on the holidays Monday, with a little early Christmas shopping.

The single mom of 8 looked to be in a somber mood as she shopped the aisles at Toys R Us, Old Navy and Bed Bath and Beyond in Reading Pennsylvania.

Kate has expressed her nerves about spending her first Christmas as a single mom, but it seems that she's doing all she can to make sure her beloved kids have the most enjoyable Christmas possible, with or without their dad.

How are the PAPS following her inside the store? WTH? What a tool. She hates the paps but invites them to follow her around just to prove that she is SHOPPING. What a tool.

Kate will spend lots of time & energy plus thought into the kids gifts. Dumbo will have some gopher or intern for some tabloid pick up last minute junk, and give it to "MADDY & KARA" like the b'day cake insult. Pathetic dad!

What is clear when watching Jon on the show is that he looks like he doesn't put much energy into being there or parenting. He acts like he's not interested. His mind is elsewhere always.

His poor daughter is literally begging him for a popsicle cause she is real hot but he acts like she isn't even there. It wasn't until ALL the kids came up asking him cause they were hot did he pay attention.
