While wife Scarlett Johansson heats up screens in the next Iron Man installment, Ryan Reynolds will be stepping into the prized role of the Green Lantern. The actor was handpicked for the coveted spot by Warner Bros. and director Martin Campbell.

Beating out The Hangover star Bradley Cooper and brooding Jared Leto, Reynolds will begin production in January. 

It’s been a busy summer for the heartthrob. His turn as Deadpool in X-Men Origins: Wolverine was so well received that Fox has begun developing a spin off for him. His other movie The Proposal with Sandra Bullock has netted over $100 million.
