Jon Gosselin’s new girlfriend has generated a whirlwind of publicity since announcing her romantic relationship with him, but she’s no stranger to controversy a RadarOnline.com investigation reveals.

Kate Major resigned from Star magazine Thursday after announcing Wednesday night that she was romantically involved with Jon.

Her announcement stunned Jon’s 22-year-old girlfriend Hailey Glassman and also caused Jon to suddenly become Harpo Marx (translation: turning mute) – at least publicly.

RadarOnline.com has confirmed that Jon and his new Kate are romantically involved and Jon is worried his old Kate, the one known as “wife”, will try to keep the kids away from him.

While Hailey Glassman had an arrest on multiple drug charges in her past, Jon’s new girlfriend Kate Major has been a major partier, people who know her tell RadarOnline.com.

She worked in Chicago before joining In Touch magazine and later Star. Someone who knows her well said that while in the Windy City, “She was out once at Tavern on Rush partying and fell down the stairs.  She said it was because she got roofied at the bar.”

In Chicago, Major interned for Liz Crokin, who runs the blog thesebootsaremadeforstalking.com. A Thursday post on the blog describing Major’s past read: “Major loved living the life of a celebrity journalist! She soaked up the Hollywood life fast, rubbing elbows with celebrities, heading to glamorous parties and getting her drink on.”

After getting her “drink on” in Chicago, Major became close to Lindsay Lohan when sent to cover the story of the starlet’s rehab stint a few years ago. That relationship led her to Michael Lohan who told RadarOnline.com that Major and Jon stayed at his place in the Hamptons the past few days, as Major, ironically, sought to get away from the press.

The friend who knew Major well in Chicago said: “ it’s no surprise that Major is now with Jon. Anyone who knows Major knows that she's always wanted to be in the lime light,” said the source.

The New York Post quoted a friend saying that Major had been in rehab but Michael Lohan told RadarOnline.com that wasn’t true. “No. People shouldn’t start writing that. She didn’t go to rehab for drugs or alcohol or anything like that. She went for crisis counseling and that’s it,” Lohan told RadarOnline.com

There is no word when or if Kate will be meeting Jon’s children. Jon, meanwhile, has hired a publicist, shelling out his $$ for high powered Rubenstein Communications.

And when RadarOnline.com called with a long, long, long, long list of questions, what did Jon’s money buy him? “No comment” to everything.
