While nostalgia, fresh faces and spiffy special effects helped the new Star Trek film soar to a banner $76.5 million opening in the states, the film's foreign revenue ($35.5 million) fell short of expectations.
The film drew solid numbers in the U.K./Ireland ($8.8 million combined) as well as Germany ($4.6 million), but didn't meet the lofty projections industry analysts figured it for, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
The film, according to Paramount Studios, did outdo the 2005 opening of eventual foreign blockbuster Batman Begins ($167 million) by 3 percent. It opens in India and Japan next month.
