Kiefer Sutherland, via his attorney Monday, issued a statement regarding the incident that took place in New York last week when he allegedly headbutt clothing designer Jack McCollough to defend the honor of actress Brooke Shields.

"We are troubled by the untruthful and self-serving information circulating regarding Kiefer Sutherland and the events of last Monday evening," wrote the actor's attorney, Michael C. Miller.

The lawyer wrote that he was confident authorities would clear the 24 star as "neither the instigator nor a wrongdoer in this incident."

He said that actor would not be publicly commenting "out of respect for the law enforcement process." (Photo: WENN)
