LeAnn Rimes, during her chat with Today Show host Matt Lauer, refused to discuss rumors that surfaced last month of an extramarital affair she allegedly had with actor Eddie Cibrian, her co-star in 2009 TV movie Northern Lights.

Rimes said she refuses to discuss tabloid-generated rumors and said they often generate pain and hurt toward the target and their loved ones.

The singer-actress said that she understands the bright spotlight that shines on her, and knows rumors as such comes along with the fame and fortune celebrity brings.

"I've grown up in the press my whole life," Rimes said, "[And] I think people are fascinated by my personal life -- and I totally get it."

Rimes and husband Dean Sheremet celebrated their seven-year anniversary this past February.
