Madonna arrives at Heathrow Airport in London Sunday after losing her bid to adopt 3-year-old Mercy James, an orphan in Malawi.

Madonna -- who looks distraught in this new photograph just made public -- was described as being in shock after the judge's ruling was announced.

The 50-year-old singer has vowed to fight the ruling and has already filed an appeal.

Madonna's ex-husband Guy Ritchie greeted her at the airport to help console her. (Photo: Flynet)
