Unlike the super high-profile Times Square performance given by her Disney pals The Jonas Brothers, Miley Cyrus spent her New Year's Eve singing and dancing in a high school gym backed by student dancers.

The 16 year-old superstar played the Beckman High School in Irvine, California. She was there thanks to student Alison Kaprielian, who won the gig in an MTV contest.

Cyrus and MTV were there to honor the student who has worked tirelessly to raise breast cancer awareness.
