It's apparently more fun to read about the winners than actually watch them.

Despite the megawatt power of the stars in attendance the awards show drew dim ratings, barely beating 20/20 and a Law & Order: SVU rerun in its first hour and getting whupped by Barbara Walters' interview with Patrick Swayze and his wife and by Law & Order.

This is a bad omen for the Golden Globes and the Oscars, both of which have suffered ratings erosion in recent years.

"Part of the problem is the stars are overexposed," said an executive at CBS, which aired the awards show. "There's no need for appointment TV when you can see them pretty much whenever you want."
