Mayer May Have TV Show

Songsmith John Mayer -- also known as the guy who's dating Jennifer Aniston -- is going to shoot a pilot for a new TV variety series.

CBS exec Nina Tassler told the Television Critics Association gathering in Los Angeles today that the show will either spawn a bunch of specials or a weekly series, depending on how it turns out.

Mayer is no stranger to the format, having hosted the short-lived -- one episode -- VH1 show John Mayer Has a TV Show in 2004.

CBS is taking a chance here, since last month's NBC variety show starring Rosie O'Donnell tanked.
