American Idol's new judge, songwriter-producer Kara DioGuardi, has given journalists a peek at what to watch for when the show begins its eighth season on January 13.
"There's at least five guys I think are great," she said. "There's a uniqueness to some of the male contestants in terms of voices and songs they're picking and the general direction of what their record would be. There was a lot of soul influence -- it's not even that I'm talking R&B, but more in the way Maroon 5 is soulful."
She also said she has come up with a catchphrase: "I would say right now my line is 'Be you, Don't try to be anybody but you.'" (Note to Kara: catchphrases usually just happen, they aren't planned.)
