Majel Barrett Roddenberry, who helped keep Star Trek alive after her husband passed away, has died of leukemia at the age of 76.
She was surrounded at her death by many friends, including her son Eugene Roddenberry Jr.
Barrett was part of the Star Trek franchise for over 40 years, having played a number of major and minor roles in the many series. Among them were Nurse Chapel in the original series, the Betazoid Ambassador Lwaxana Troi in Star Trek: The Next Generation and Deep Space Nine, as well as the voice of starship computers in a number of episodes.
In addition, Barrett kept the franchise going by attending Star Trek conventions. She also oversaw such Roddenberry-created projects as Andromeda starring Kevin Sorbo.
"I think Star Trek will always be her legacy," said family spokesperson Sean Rossall.
