Pay cable outlet Showtime is prepping a science fiction series called Syns, about humanlike synthetic organisms, aka Syns, who are used for various tasks.

The show was originally called Dolls' Hospital. This is an improvement.

Creative contributors have good genre credentials. John McNamara was a producer on the apocalyptic show Jericho and Sera Gamble is a writer/producer on the underrated Supernatural.

Chris Coelen, who is CEO of production house RDF USA, said the show will have "light sci-fi elements, but it's really meant to be rooted in the real world."
