SAG Down And Out?
Posted on Dec 17, 2008 @ 09:58AM
As RADAR reported yesterday, the Screen Actors Guild plan to obtain a strike vote from its members -- giving it the power to shut down most scripted film and TV production -- got two blows this week. First, the New York branch opposed the idea. Then a slew of celebs including Tom Hanks and George Clooney came out and condemned the move.
Now, one network has said they'll simply switch its contracts from SAG to a different union.
"With all the uncertainty surrounding the stalled negotiations with SAG, 20th Century Fox Television is considering shooting its spring pilots under the AFTRA agreement," a spokesman said.
In response, SAG exec Doug Allen said, "Unfortunately, the vast majority of (members) have not taken the opportunity to learn the facts directly from Screen Actors Guild. Clearly, the (producers') rhetoric has had the desired effect."
