The film is about a poor boy from the Mumbai slums who ends up on an Indian reality show which gives him a chance to win a fortune.
Clint Eastwood was named best actor for the upcoming Gran Torino, while Anne Hathaway won best actress for Rachel Getting Married.
Best director went to David Fincher for The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.
Best supporting actor was Josh Brolin for Milk and Penelope Cruz for Vicky Cristina Barcelona.
Recent NBR winners have done very well, including No Country for Old Men, Juno, and Little Miss Sunshine.
