It took less than 90 minutes for The New York Daily News to steal the Empire State Building from its rightful owners, the Empire State Land Associates.

We kid you not. The newspaper created false documents, faked a notary registration -- using the name of famed crook Willie Sutton -- and filed the package with New York City which gave it legal ownership of the 77 year old skyscraper.

Making things even worse, the faux company was called Nelots Properties, LLC -- that's "stolen" backwards. One of the new owners was listed as deceased actress Fay Wray, who starred in the original King Kong.

The newspaper has fessed up to the theft and given the building back to its owners.
