Despite the so-so box office returns on the last Rambo actioner, Sylvester Stallone is writing and directing The Expendables, about mercenaries attempting to overthrown a South American tyrant. The film will be shot in Costa Rica and Louisiana.

Jason Statham (The Transporter) costars, and Hong Kong martial arts king Jet Li is also likely to join the team.
