The Associated Press is reporting a London court has given a preliminary decree of divorce to Madonna and director Guy Ritchie. If there are no further motions, the split becomes permanent in six weeks and a day.

The couple, who were married for 8 years, were not required to put in an appearance. Madonna is in Philadelphia on her Sticky and Sweet tour while Guy is busy shooting Sherlock Holmes in England with Robert Downey, Jr. Sons Rocco and David are with their father.
