Lord Of The... Thrones?

HBO is developing a weekly series called Game of Thrones, based on author George R.R. Martin's series A Song of Fire & Ice. The series is set in a feudal world of dragons, knights and magic, all of which are ruled from a great iron throne.
"Fantasy is the most successful genre in terms of feature films, given the incredible popularity of the Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter movies," said producer David Benioff who brought us Troy and has obviously forgotten huge megabuck flops like The Golden Compass, Stardust, and Dungeons & Dragons.
"High fantasy has never been done on TV before," he adds, conveniently ignoring the longrunning Hercules and Xena.
We wish him and HBO well. The pay cable service which gave us Sex and the City and The Sopranos has lately been showing forgettable fare like John from Cincinnati and True Blood while rival Showtime has scored with The L Word, Dexter, and Californication.
