Brokeback Opera Goes Broke
Posted on Nov 10, 2008 @ 09:05AM
Production has been indefinitely suspended on the opera version of Brokeback Mountain.
Brokeback Mountain opera?
Yes, apparently the idea was considered "revolutionary" and intended to "stir things up." At least that was the thinking behind New York City Opera General Manger Gerard Mortier, who wanted it on the 2009-10 performance schedule. But now he's gone and our tragic cowpokes may never sing (thankfully).
An opera based on the wondrous world of Mr. Walt Disney is also officially on hold.
"I guess that one goes back into the deep freeze," quipped an opera staffer.
