CASTLES IN THE SKY, LEGS IN THE AIR Leonard St. plans

A two-page spread of a version of this image took the inside front cover and facing page in the New York Times magazine this weekend. It is an advertisement for 56 Leonard Street, a $650 million building just beginning construction in Manhattan. It features 145 apartments in 60 stories, each of which will allegedly be on the market for $3.5 million to $35 million. It is pretty groovy, everyone agrees. But right now, you know what it reminds one of? At the advent of the AIDS crisis in America, there arose a market for "pre-condom" gay porn.
