Jerry Reed, 1937-2008

Country music legend Jerry Reed passed away yesterday at the age of 71. Younger readers may know him—if they know him at all—as the mean coach in that Adam Sandler Cajun flick; Reed's friendship with Burt Reynolds lead to his appearance in the Smokey and the Bandit movies, among others. Still, it's as a singer that he's best remembered: He's seen here performing "She Got the Goldmine (I Got The Shaft)" but it's well worth your while to seek out "Amos Moses" and even "East Bound and Down," the Smokey theme.
